May 2 - 4, 2018 - Hyatt-Chesapeake, Cambridge, MD
This year’s conference will once again be held at the Hyatt-Cambridge Resort in Cambridge, Md. A full list of conference programs will be available soon, but the conference committee is pleased to announce the following four pre-conference programs:
Full Day programs:
“The Librarian’s Guide to Homelessness” – is sponsored by the Delaware Library Association. The workshop features Ryan Dowd, the Executive Director of a homeless shelter in Illinois, who has written a guide book with the support of ALA, about dealing with the homeless population.
“Introduction to Strategic Leadership” – is sponsored by MLLI and presented by Maureen Sullivan.
“Lights, Camera, Action: Revitalizing Programming through Live Action Puppet Theater” – is sponsored by CSD and will give you the skills to create a literacy-based puppet program to meet the needs of your community.
“Creating and Managing a Human Library” – is sponsored by ACRL-MD and aims to help libraries develop a design or plan for a human library of their own.
“Positive Youth Civic Engagement and Social Action through Libraries and Communities” – a YALSA program. Why do teens find value in participating in social action and civic engagement projects? How can libraries promote and support youth and community led social engagement and social action projects? What value does youth led civic engagement bring to the community? These are just some of the questions that will be answered in this pre-conference in which library staff and community members will facilitate discussion and learning related to bringing youth-led social action and civic engagement activities to libraries.
