PSD Presents: DIY Genre Boot Camp; Guy Reads, Urban Fiction and Graphic Novels

Thursday, October 6, 2016, 9:15am - 3:45pm - BCPL-Arbutus Branch

MLA Members: $60. Non-members: $90. Students: $51.

Sharpen your readers' advisory skills and gather resources to assist you in developing and presenting a "Do it Yourself Readers' Advisory Boot Camp" at your own branch! The first half of the program you will learn more about Guy Reads from Andy Wolverton, Urban Fiction from Diane Berkman and Graphic Novels from Bill Stea. Lunch will be provided. The second half of the program will involve participants in an interactive Readers Advisory Boot Camp session in which they will be separated into groups to discuss books in one of the genres they learned about during the morning session. Groups will rotate until each has had a chance to discuss titles in each of the three genres. By the end of the day, participants will have the tools necessary to develop a similar DIY workshop at their branch. Readers' Advisory Boot Camps are a great way to expand your repertoire in genres you may not normally read. Participants are asked to read a minimum of 2 books from each of the 3 categories (6 books in total) See the Handouts Page for a link to the book lists.

This program has been approved for 4.5 contact hours of continuing education. Registration deadlines: September 29th. Refunds cannot be issued after September 22nd.
